A collaborative project with Rev. Manda Nordes

In 2019, just before I made my husband drag himself back to Florida for an opportunity for me to attend Florida State University (he is an alumnus), I convinced my amazing colleague to present at the annual CTEBVI conference. This California specific organization of vision professionals, alternates the annual conference site between Los Angeles and San Fransisco, and in 2019, it happened to be local to us in the Bay Area.

We knew that the topic, which is Manda's passion project, could be somewhat controversial. Even though the term 'Me too' later #meToo was coined in 2006 by Ms. Tarana Burke, 2017-2019 brought more widespread awareness of sexual harassment and assaults to the front pages of newspapers, onto streets, and all over social media. But why would we speak about this topic at a vision specialists conference?! Because it is prevalent!

If you are interested on how we connected this relevant popular media topic to our instruction of students with visual impairments, you can view the recording we did in lieu of the presentation at the 2020 AERBVI International Conference.

The recording and materials are now available on the new AER professional development site: https://www.pathlms.com/aer/courses/33380. You can also earn CEU should you want to take the mini-course.
